The History of Spectrum Powder Coaters

Spectrum Powder Coaters Ltd. has grown, transformed and undergone name changes over the years, however, our dedication and expert powder coating services have remained consistently unrivalled from our inception right through to the present day.

We have put together this brief summary of the history of our company, including notable events and operational improvements, to offer an insight into our journey so far and the level of experience our team of powder coating specialists possess.

1980

Spectrum has been established as a trade coating and shot-blasting sub contract service continually since 1980 and established to service the needs of local engineering and sheet-metal companies. The original company name of Arand Industrial finishing was taken from the founder's surname Malcolm Randle.

1986

Arand were incorporated into the Vistaplan International Group PLC in 1986 who themselves were part of the Rediweld Holdings group of companies, their diverse range of products and services included Vacuum sewage pumps, drawing office products, and traffic calming solutions.

1999

The company invested over £500,000 in a new state of the art automatic pretreatment and powder coating facility. Housed in a factory extension, this facility gave us the added capacity for painting volume parts to exacting standards required of the volume sheet metal, engineering and automotive sectors, the extra capacity was very quickly swallowed up by companies within a 50 mile radius resulting in the company operating a 24 hour shift system.

2010

New 3 stage aqueous wash-plant installed to replace the old solvent degreaser. This allows a solvent free journey for all components through the complete finishing stage in our manual powder coating facility.

2015

Following the management buyout in 2015 Spectrum was re-branded and renamed but not rehomed; we are still at the same address we have always been. We still operate with the same core values of outstanding quality and service, constant investments in the latest technology, and training our staff, the same core values we have always been known for, Spectrum is totally committed to customer care and satisfaction, with dedicated personnel to care for every aspect of its service, from initial enquiries to order processing and quality assurance.

2016

Following the trial of the latest Gema powder coating equipment, 5 new machines were purchased and installed. These new guns are the most efficient and technologically advanced that are available.

2020

We have seen our fair share of recessions and weathered the storms through many ups and downs over the years but the pandemic came out of nowhere and changed the world forever. During this time Spectrum were contacted to help fulfil medical contracts and we were proud to have been of help to process the contracts and help where we could - now we are coming through the other end we are as busy as we have ever been and ready for our customers next challenges.

2024

A significant change took place in 2024 with Managing Director Chris Shannon taking complete control of the company. With the business back under family ownership, we are excited to look towards the future as we continue taking Spectrum from strength to strength.
